Leichhardt Residence

The design brief for the Leichhardt Residence called for the sub-division of the clients’ block of land, and building an efficient, self-contained dwelling to replace accumulated clutter of 1970s additions to the rear of the site. The exterior form of the house is defined by a concrete shell that provides security, and whose austerity belies sun-drenched living areas and versatile courtyard spaces within. The unfinished surface of the concrete also provides a contrast with the rich, soft hues and textures of the timber interior, bringing out the best qualities of both materials.
