Newtown Residence

The clients’ desire for a sustainable, passive and thermally responsive approach to their new home is reflected in the flexibility and orientation of the living spaces.

A courtyard in the centre of the plan encourages natural ventilation throughout and signifies the transition from the old to the new.  The palette of materials is simple, and complements the honest approach taken in the construction. Bricks salvaged from the demolition were incorporated into the new works, retaining the memory of the old house where the clients had lived for ten years.
