Project Overview
A simple weekender accommodated within a single pavilion structure set in the bush and designed to take advantage of the 270-degree views. This building is constructed from traditional rural materials in a contemporary way combining salvaged recycled local bridge timbers and galvanised steel. The whole house opens up like a tent allowing natural ventilation and solar access.
The open plan living area of the house is bounded at one end by a galley kitchen with island bench and at the other end by an open fireplace surrounded by custom joinery discreetly screening the bedroom beyond. Timber salvaged from the original termite-damaged house was used where possible. The house opens to the north to a courtyard bounded by a pond, the wood stack and the sandstone fireplace of the original dwelling.
